Review of Salt & Straw

Summer time is the PERFECT time for ice cream. But not just any ice cream. Salt & Straw’s ice cream. This delicious dairy treat was so good it doesn’t even deserve to be labeled as ice cream but something more godly. Lusciously silk-like deliciousness. Yep, because that’s exactly what it was.

I’d first heard about this place because my roommate has been obsessed for over a year. She talks about it all the time and, finally, she decided to bring me and our other roommate along to see what all the hype was about (they’re sort of pictured haha).

Allow me to start with the atmosphere itself. Hidden within a strip of cute shops and restaurants, this hole in the wall hideout is absolutely adorable. Stepping inside, it looks like something out of a Christopher Nolan movie– The Prestige is teeeeechnically what I had in mind. Magical, industrial, and trendy all in one. What an aesthetic. I could practically feel my inner hipster emerge.

What’s great about Salt & Straw’s selection is that they have a myriad of flavors. And every season they change it up! You can try whatever you want before you actually buy something hehe 😉 and the bite of the “birthday cakes and blackberries” flavor I got to taste was to DIE for. But I didn’t get it. I tried their “chocolate gooey brownie” flavor and my heart was pretty set on that…until I tried their “almond brittle with salted ganache”. EHRMEHRGEHRD.

It was life changing.

“Creamy, but not too creamy” -Caitlin (my roommate).

She’s right. And the nutty almond brittle added just the right amount of crunch! Apparently, I also found out, the “almond brittle with salted ganache” flavor is their most popular and the first flavor Caitlin ever got as well! What a concept. So there ya have it. If you’re in Portland or Los Angeles (their two locations) def check it out, because their ice cream is like nothing I’ve ever had before. Curious for more? Check out their website I linked here. I will definitely be going back.
